Sangeet Millennium is proud to present their first production of the 2009-2010 season.

What:
Sufis, Seers, and Sitars – a multidisciplinary, and multilingual production in which several noted Austin world music artists and one international guest artist collaborate to celebrate intercultural understanding and peace in a commingling of distinct but related music traditions from North and South India and Pakistan.

Featured Artists:

Ustad Ghulam Farid Nizami, Fulbright Scholar-Artist from Pakistan, will present ecstatic Sufi songs and ghazal (Urdu love poetry) from his region, along with expert sitar stylings.

He will be joined by sitarist Amie Maciszewski and her Sangeet Millennium Ensemble, consisting much-called tabla player Shiv Naimpally and distinguished Austin sax player and composer Paul Klemperer, who will fuse traditional Hindustani music with jazz.


Austin world music hero Oliver Rajamani will delight with his multi-instrumental and vocal arrangements of South Indian folk songs of fortune tellers (seers) and more.
