On New Year’s Eve 2011, two musical traditions from the heart of civilization–those of India and West Africa–will meet in live music capital Austin, whose world music scene continues to grow in vibrancy. Austin-based sitarist Amie Maciszewski will join with Niger-born n’goni and kora (African harp) player/multi-instrumentalist Ibrahim Aminou in a collaboration unprecedented in Austin. The show will take place from 9:30 to 11:00 p.m. at the Sahara Lounge, 1413 Webberville, in East Austin. Aminou’s band Zoumountchi will play danceable Afropop and reggae from 11:15 p.m. to 1:15 a.m. Admission: $7, $10/couple–includes buffet and champagne at midnight.
